Torrance Creativity Awards for Gifted Students
As the Midwest Torrance Center, we subscribe to creativity as the “highest form of mental functioning.” This framework was initiated and developed by E. Paul Torrance, known as the father of creativity and an international pioneer in education. He embraced and communicated ideas that The Center for Gifted believes are exemplary in both concept and the learning experience.
The International Torrance Legacy Creativity Awards offer students from all over the world a distinct opportunity to submit in four major areas: Creative Writing, Visual Arts, Music Composition, and Invention. The Awards began in 2008 with creative writing (poems and short stories). Other categories soon followed, with original work from all parts of the United States as well as other countries submitted by enthusiastic participants age 8-18. The themes for the 2016 year include:The Honor and The Glory; A Grateful Heart; What A Mystery!; Couldn't Help Laughing; Journey to Forever; A Reluctant Adventure; Who Would've Thought; and Exploring a New Universe. Sponsors for the 2016 Torrance Legacy include: The National Association for Gifted Children, the Torrance Center for Creativity and Talent Development, the National Association for Gifted Children Creativity Network, Future Problem Solving International, and Center for Gifted/Midwest Torrance Center for Creativity.
