Welcome
to the Onslow County
High School AIG Website
AIG provides a unique opportunity for our students to succeed with their unique talents. There is a collaborative team of educators, administrators, and stakeholders who are working to ensure that our AIG students stay challenged, engaged, and hands on learners. This website is designed to help our students and parents learn more about what it means to be AIG and the services and resources that are available at our High Schools.
In Onslow County Schools gifted students at the high school level are continually being supported by Secondary AIG Specialists and the school staff. The students have access to individualized help with course selection and the college application process. Additionally, the AIG Specialists seek to provide opportunities both inside and outside of the school environment for students to explore their talents based on their identification and interests. Advanced Course offerings at the Honors, Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate are available along with Career and College Promise opportunities. We are here to help make sure that every one of our gifted students is able to achieve and succeed. Also check out the Onslow County AIG website at www.onslowaig.weebly.com. |
Article 9b
|
Article 9b is the basis of any AIG program in North Carolina. It follows below:
Article 9B. Academically or Intellectually Gifted Students. § 115C-150.5. Academically or intellectually gifted students. The General Assembly believes the public schools should challenge all students to aim for academic excellence and that academically or intellectually gifted students perform or show the potential to perform at substantially high levels of accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment. Academically or intellectually gifted students exhibit high performance capability in intellectual areas, specific academic fields, or in both intellectual areas and specific academic fields. Academically or intellectually gifted students require differentiated educational services beyond those ordinarily provided by the regular educational program. Outstanding abilities are present in students from all cultural groups, across all economic strata, and in all areas of human endeavor. (1996, 2nd Ex. Sess., c. 18, s. 18.24(f).) |
